Physics and Astronomy festival!

One of the really cool things about living in Aggieland is the fun activities that some of the departments put on up at A&M. Our absolute favorite so far has been the Vet School open house (I probably need to go back and post that from last year). Back in the spring, the engineering department put on their annual physics and astronomy "festival". It was really cool. LOTS of it was quite above our knowledge base but there was a lot for us to do as well. We had a great time. The older the kids get the more and more they will get out of this.
just taking a little ride...
This poor guy was working so hard giving "rides" to whoever wanted them

watching a demonstration

This is what the girls would weigh if they were on the moon. Olivia is in the purple crocs and Elizabeth the hello kitty slip ons. At the time, they were both around 40lbs
(Elizabeth generally 2-3lbs heavier on earth ;))

And here they are on Jupiter

bubbles that don't pop...they stay suspended (I forgot why?)
They thought the infrared was pretty cool. I love how Elizabeth's glasses show up.
riding a bike with square wheels...They were just a tad short but the students were nice enough to help them out so they could do it

we watched this probably 5 times. It was an explosion of some type and they loved it! You never knew exactly when it was going to go off and it scared them each and every time.

hmmmm....I think it's starting...

KABOOM!!!!!!!!

nothing like a good ol fashion catapult

how fast can you kick a soccer ball or throw a football...
we chose soccer
Elizabeth kicked the ball 17mph

And  Olivia 16mph
We are now getting ready to see the "Bubble man"
So cute seeing them in a lecture hall! Visions of the future!

The caterpillar!
Yes, that is smoke coming from inside the bubble! Pretty amazing
so amazed!
bubbles inside of bubbles and blowing smoke inside

It was really funny to watch some of the engineering students try to explain their station to 4 and 5 year olds. some did a great job taking it down to basics others didn't stray from their "script", which in all honesty was above me sometimes. ha!

what happened to their bodies...

this was a favorite! It was actually closing down and this nice man let them each pull the trigger to launch the ball probably 3 times each! They loved it!

where is that water coming from...
silly girls
Loving their sun color changing bracelets made at one of the stations

We weren't sure what to expect when arrive but it was a great day of learning, play and friends.
